Just noticed something. According to the leak for Silver Tempest, Pincurchin isn’t in the set. But according to the information made available to players for Worlds earlier in the year, Pincuchin is going to be card #56 in the set. The funniest part of the line not being featured in gen 8 is that it was a version exclusive of the game Pokémon Sword and the counterpart to the Pokémon Shield exclusive Tyranitar. Jangomo-O and Larvitar were even distributed as event Pokémon to those who purchased the Sword and Shield double pack (Source: https://www.serebii.net/swordshield/serialcode.shtml ). While Kommo-O was left to languish, Tyranitar got featured as early as the third set of the era (https://pkmncards.com/card/tyranitar-darkness-ablaze-daa-088/ ), then got a viable V with several pieces of art in early 2025 (https://pkmncards.com/?s=name%3Atyranitar-v+is%3Asingle-strike ), and then got a SECOND V (https://pkmncards.com/card/tyranitar-v-fusion-strike-fst-158/ ) and a second normal print (https://pkmncards.com/card/tyranitar-pokemon-go-pgo-043/ ) by the end of the era!
Part of the problem was that Jangmo-O is a pure Dragon type, making it impossible to feature the full evolution line until the Dragon type’s grand return in https://pkmncards.com/set/evolving-skies/ , but since the rest of the line is Dragon/Fighting type, we totally could have gotten a Fighting type Kommo-O V to join https://pkmncards.com/name/salamence-v/ and https://pkmncards.com/name/salamence-vmax/ ! (I remember how anxiously the community waited for Pokémon Card Labs to reveal whether they were changing dragon types back into Colorless Pokémon or were just holding the Dragon type hostage. I don’t think that VSTAR Universe has leaked — it’s just highly unlikely that it debuts NEW Gen 8 cards. End-of-year special Japanese sets tend to just have reprints.

OK, maybe I spoke too soon. Japan’s big end-of-2020 set, “Shiny Star V,” DID give us a handful of new cards like Crobat 𝙑𝙈𝘼𝙓 and Cramorant 𝙑𝙈𝘼𝙓. Not to mention the final three Amazing Rare cards.
