Fast evolution actually makes this worthwhile. No one’s going to kid themselves about the potential of speed attack ,though its ability to defend itself is definitely a boon. Using fast evolution,it can fetch an evolution for itself and for another one of your pokemon (or,for stage 2 users who forego rare candy, two evolutions for another pokemon.)

That being said, fast evolution requires a turn to activate (compare this to Dragon Blade’s Gabite, which has a limited version of this effect that can still be built around as a poke-power), and you could have just replaced this with another copy of the pokemon you wanted to evolve/another rare candy. The turn required to pull this off makes it fall from being a good tool to being a middling card that will mainly be picked in drafts.

This is only good for setting Kabutops AR/MD (and to a lesser extent Omastar and Aerodactyl), but for a Stage 1 it’s pretty good, as it’s able to do so on the first turn.

Last card ever illustrated by Yoshida, the creator of Rayquaza, Wobbuffet, Deoxys, and others :(
