I usually use Jolteon as my Psychic counter. Pin Missile is a bet of a luck based move, but it hits them for weakness. Unfortunately, there are no Pokemon in the game that have a STAB bug move, so Jolteon is the best you’ve got. But hey, he is crazy fast, so that’s a plus.

Pin Missile is only useful against Exeguttor, Thunderbolt hits psychics harder even if they have a high Special stat.

in R1, other than the psychic in poke cup, all of the psychic trainers use psybeam instead of psychic IIRC. Kadabra is mainly used to one/two shot everything ELSE. The main counter to the r1 psychic’s team is Chansey, as the only thing chansey will worry about is his zapdos’s fly attack (which can still be dealt with)
