This card’s ability is originally ひみつのカギ [𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔 𝐍𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐈], and the functionally similar Ability on TEU Klefki is ひみつのカギ [𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐎 𝐍𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐈]. ひみつ [𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔] and ひみつ [𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐎] are effectively synonyms that can both translate to “Secret”, but “Secret Key” and “Key of Secrets” is a cheap way to have done it, I think. I would’ve suggested this card’s Ability stays Secret Key, and perhaps TEU Klefi’s Ability to be translated as Private Key – that would’ve had a cute double meaning – you know, as a Private Key is something you keep *secret*?
In retrospect, I think PCL would probably swap the names around if they had the chance – みつのカギ [𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐎 𝐍𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐈] would’ve fit much better on this Klefki, especially since the Fairy-type is no longer in the TCG. The difference between ひみつ [𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔] and ひみつ [𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐎] is hard to understand, but I found a decent explanation for those interested: https://japaneseparticlesmaster.xyz/secret-in-japanese/#section20 || https://archive.is/7VM1D
I wonder if we’re going to get another Klefi down the line with きみつのカギ [𝐊𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔 𝐍𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐈]? In fact, call this post a prediction thereof. (If I’m right, that Ability will probably end up being translated as Confidential Key.)
