{W}{W}{C} → Aqua Storm
Discard the top 5 cards of your deck, and then choose 2 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. This attack does 50 damage for each Energy card you discarded in this way to each of those Pokémon. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

It is said to have widened the seas by causing downpours. It had been asleep in a marine trench.

It’s cute how the Kyogre and Groudon artworks in this set are mini-versions of the “character rare” artworks on their 2015 “Double Crisis” -EX cards!

So I guess this card is good now. What’s the focus of “Lost Kyogre” – is it spreading damage counters or are you actually milling?
Ambassador
Actually, never mind, you’re discarding cards from the top of *your own* deck, so that narrows the possible options down.

Who could’ve predicted this card would be meta?
Sam
It is? Since when?

This stars in the Lost Zone Kyogre deck – While I haven’t seen it around enough to know it by heart, I think it goes something like this: The deck uses the recent Comfey card (https://pkmncards.com/card/comfey-lost-origin-lor-079/) and Colress’s Experiment to draw cards and put cards into the Lost Zone, and I think also Radiant Greninja to draw cards and put energy into the discard pile. This unlocks the recent Sableye (https://pkmncards.com/card/sableye-lost-origin-lor-070/) and Mirage Gate – Sableye can be used to spread damage, and Mirage Gate can be used to put energy onto Radiant Greninja to spread damage and later put energy onto this Kyogre. The deck’s goal is to chew through the deck in a couple of turns while setting up its Kyogre play and maybe taking a few knock outs. Once there are no more cards in your deck, you use Energy Recyclers to build a new deck that’s entirely made of energy, so that Aqua Storm is easily able to take several prizes in one turn and finish off the game in one swift move.

That’s the gist of it! And the 2023 Worlds Junior Division Champion defied expectations of what the Junior division could handle by piloting this incredibly complicated deck to the top of the world’s premier Pokémon event (Held in his home country for the first time!), meaning we will probably get it as a World Champion reprint deck! Why was this defying expectations? I’ll give you some analogies from top Pokémon players to show you how incredible a Worlds win with this deck would be for anyone, much less someone from the youngest age division. I say top players, but they’re basically all from Grant Manley, who, as you can probably tell, wrote about this deck a LOT:
https://www.pokebeach.com/2022/12/double-top-8-with-broken-gate
Grant Manley’s first article on Lost Box was the mildest description of Lost Box’s skill ceiling, but I thought it worth mentioning because his “I’m a big fan” paragraph was what got me interested in playing this deck, and is the main reason I was rooting for this deck to win on stream (with the possibility of it being sold for $15 being my ulterior motive).

“So many braincells.” Enough said.
https://www.pokebeach.com/2023/05/the-unthinkable-crime
“That said, playing Lost Box at a competitive level is still comparable to playing 4-D chess or solving sudoku with only one given digit.”
This may be one of the funniest and most memorable quotes I have ever read in a Pokémon article.
But the quote that will best help you understand why this child is incredible is as follows:
https://www.pokebeach.com/2023/09/pittsburgh-regionals-and-more-on-mew
“Kyogre has always been an incredibly strong deck that is chronically underplayed. This is due to its requiring a nuclear physics degree to pilot at a competent level.”
Congratulations, Shao Tong Yen. You’re about to be the first minor to complete a PhD. Let your Play! Pokémon scholarship carry you into the wild world of academia!

I just realized it will take about as long to read this comment as it will to play out a turn with this deck!
Tl;dr: lots of funny quotes from Grant Manley. It’s worth 5 minutes of your life!
