Since Base Set, “As often as you like during your turn” has been part of the text of various Pokémon Powers, Poké-POWERs, Abilities, and even a Pokémon Tool. With the exception of SF Energy Link and EXD Dragonite ex, it was always followed by the specification “(before your attack)”. And Lanturn is the latest in that tradition – that PROUD tradition, set by his forefathers, Base Set Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard, and Alakazam – to offer the player to do something as many times as they want during their turn.
But it’s also the last [tournament legal] card in that tradition. Starting with SWSH Frosmoth, the translation team saw fit to undermine a 20 year tradition of a superfluous qualification in the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s English edition, and now we are told we are allowed to do things as often as we like during our turn. This has, as we all know, had the effect of absolute chaos and anarchy in the trading card game.
Lanturn – good night, sweet prince! As often as you like during your turn, may you swim the open seas to your heart’s content, as long as you only do it before your attack.
