You can play this card only if you have at least 1 Basic Pokémon card in your hand. Put a Basic Pokémon card from your hand into play as your Active Pokémon. Put your old Active Pokémon onto your Bench. (You can’t play this card if your Bench is full.)

So, um…Switch?
coolestman22
The only use there is for this card is as a 5th switch, and wasn’t warp point legal then?
reshikrom64
Not to mention Itemfinder (old-school Junk Arm).
Curtis
Its not exactly a Switch, as your new active comes from your hand.
reshikrom64
Yeah, but if you have the space on your Bench to play Surge, why wouldn’t you just play your Basic and then just Switch it active? There is honestly no reason to play this. You can’t even use cost, because switches are probably the most common non-energy card in existence…wait. This garbage, outclassed by SWITCH of all things, was a rare????

I was gonna say that this is strictly worse than Switch in every way, but you guys beat me to it.

“Strictly worse than Switch” this card is not. It lets you get a Pokémon into play while circumventing the effect of Rocket’s Minefield Gym.

If this could be played during your opponent’s turn, this would be absolutely fascinating, and it would make sense from a flavor perspective. Of course, that would bring instant-speed trainers into the fore in Pokemon TCG , which might not be a good idea….

I would absolutely LOVE it is Pokemon came out with some Trainer cards that could be played off-turn! They could start simple by letting cards like Switch, Defender, and Sleep!, and then print more complicated cards like perhaps one that lets you remove the energy from a pkmn that would be KO’d and return it to your hand (or move to benched pkmn).

This card reminds me of Furisode Girl, which even with the bonus of being able to search a Basic from deck has not seen competitive play.
