    · Charge [たいでん 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧] also appears on Lt. Surge’s Electabuzz (G1 27) and Lt. Surge’s Pikachu (G1 81), and goes on to appear on a few other cards, including AQ Mareep and PK Pikachu. Starting with BW Pikachu, 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧 will begin to be translated as “Energize” instead. Which is to say, this attack isn’t the same as the video game attack “Charge” [じゅうでん 𝐣𝐮𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧], which debuted in the games in Ruby and Sapphire. An attack by the name of 𝐣𝐮𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧 had already appeared and been translated as “Recharge” on WBSP4 Pikachu, and kept being translated as “Recharge” until the BW era changed it to “Charge” (starting with EMP Thundurus).
    · The second attack is an easier story – while [ほうでん 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧] didn’t appear in the video games until Generation 4, the attack had already appeared in the TCG, where it had been translated as “Discharge“. The video game translation team, thankfully, translated the name of the attack in the same way. This is, incidentally, the debut of Discharge in the TCG.
