I wish the TCG could errata early cards that reference “EX” Pokemon to include all Rule Box cards. It would make so many old cards viable in expanded
JP
One proposal I had heard around this is that they could’ve used terminology like “1-prizer” and “non-1-prizer”, which would’ve covered both older and future cards. (it wouldn’t cover things like BREAKs or Prism Stars but most balance issues imo are around non-1-prizers)

It’s frustrating how little the card design team cares about older sets. I understand the way Pokemon works is different than, say, Magic, and the main draw to new sets really just is bigger numbers rather than new mechanics. But I hate how things like Mega Evolutions and standard evolving GXs are really out of luck when you put them next to a Pokemon V. By having consistent terminology you can at least let those old cards benefit from new support and allowing anti-two prize effects to remain relevant.

I’m rather torn myself. Part of me wishes they’d issue errata for at least some of the older effects that specifically worked on, worked for, or didn’t work for these old Rule Box Pokémon. Obviously some, like Mega Turbo, should still work only on what they were intended (Mega Evolutions).
However, at this point I just wish the powers-that-be would be honest and rotate the Expanded Format. Because there are two very legitimate reasons for why they had not done such a thing:
1) It would be massively confusing for players, worse even than past such “mass errata” like how the definition of “Trainer” has varied over the years.
2) I strongly suspect the powers that be want a lot of these cards to be symbolic. If they suddenly become competitively relevant, then the powers-that-be have to keep them in mind when designing new cards.
The latter is why I refer to rotation as being honest. Yes, some older cards are highly competitive, but most are just there to bulk up the size of the card pool without affecting the metagame. With some cards suddenly becoming broken because the designers apparently forgot about them when designing something new.

I would be totally for them rotating expanded and giving players an option (particularly on PTCGO) to play a XY-Lost Thunder format without 3 prizers. Since there’s already legacy, which is basically where Black and White era cards go to play. I just want to have formats where cards can have a chance to shine, at least online, since I understand it would hard to regulate multiple formats irl.

It’s only a matter of time imo
