This is why you never hire repairmen who lack any credentials whatsoever. Bill might charge a bit more when it comes to repairing hands , but at least he nets you card advantage!
This card may seem useless on its own, but its true utility shows up when you use it with a Prof. Oak variant.
You can control which cards you actually send to the discard pile and which you keep….but there are plenty of instances where it can be cruel to you.
>shuffle a piece of an evolution chain into your deck, only to draw the other piece, which gets discarded
>shuffle two of the weaker cards in your hand, hoping that the card draw will save you , only to get a redundant energy
I was always a fan of Maintenance for that very reason. Since it was impossible to have any sort of deck in the Base Set era without Oak, controlling what you discard is very helpful.
So this gets reprinted… There are a few obvious uses here (Plasma Energy, choosing which cards wont be discarded by Sycamore…), but that still seems meh.
With the release of Lysandre’s Last Resort shuffling cards back into your deck so you don’t have to discard them is not even remotely worth the deckspace
