Ability ⇢ Hyper Hypnosis
When you attach an Energy from your hand to this Pokémon, you may use this Ability. Your opponent’s Active Pokémon is now Asleep.
{D}{C} → MAXamar : 60×
Flip a coin for each Energy attached to this Pokémon. This attack does 60 damage times the number of heads.
· Pokémon-EX rule: When a Pokémon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

ok, so assuming you get your energy drops, there is a 1/8 chance that this guy will do 120 damage before your foe even gets a chance to attack. AND he resists psychic types.
Malamar+all energies looks like it’ll be OP as hell in draft
Kad
He’s pretty decent outside of draft because of his ability and with a trick coin attached. I played against a genesect deck and did 180 damage three turns in a row with trick coin and four energies.
Mantidactyle
Muscle Band is more effective than Trick Coin on Malamar, up to 5 Energies.
Average damage :
No Tool: 060 for 2, 090 for 3, 120 for 4, 150 for 5
Trick Coin: 072 for 2, 105 for 3, 137 for 4, 170 for 5
Muscle Band: 080 for 2, 110 for 3, 140 for 4, 170 for 5
Kad
I’m not sure if we’re looking at the same Malamar EX. “Flip a coin for each energy attached to this Pokémon. This attack does 60x the number of heads.”
You only need three heads to do 180 damage. 1 for 60, 2 for 120, 3 for 180. Muscle band gives it 1 for 80, 2 for 140, 3 for 200. Why would you go for 200 when you have twice as many chances to go for 180 to knock out a pokemon that will most likely have 170 or 180 HP?
Mantidactyle
Average damage for 2 Energies is 60, not 120. You’ll hit heads 50% of the time.
The numbers I’ve posted are the damage expectations on the long run.
Kad
“The numbers I’ve posted are the damage expectations on the long run.” There is a 100% chance that Malamar will never do 72, 105, 137, 110, or 170 damage given combinations of energies and muscle band. Through EXPERIENCE, it is easy to achieve 180 damage.
Mantidactyle
Malamar will do 72 damage on average with Trick Coin and two Energies, with optimal rerolls.
This doesn’t means it will do 72 damage, this means the results likely to be made are 60 / 60 / 60 / 60 / 120.
Experience is useless. Your experience is not equal to 99999999999999999999999 times using the attack.
Kad
Welp, since you won’t listen to reason, I’ll let you keep thinking you’ll do 72 damage. You won’t be hearing back from me. I don’t think you would care anyway.
Dark Kira
You should read the whole conversation.

Sadroo
Are you sure you calculated right with Trick Coin? I think it’s 75 for 2 and 112.5 for 3, which makes Trick Coin more effective.
Dark Kira
The numbers for Trick Coin are all based on when you reflip, so that should be added anyway.
Sadroo
I think if there are more Tails than Heads in the result, you should use Trick Coin, or you don’t have to reflip. And that causes the greatest average damage.
Mantidactyle
I’m sure of it.
I’ll try to explain it using a tree, instead of showing the calculations.
Here are the possibilities for 2 coins:
TT, TH, HT, HH
0, 60, 60, 120
You will reroll TT, TH, HT only.
Here are the possibilities for 2 coins, with one optimal reroll:
TT, TH, HT, HH, HH
0, 60, 60, 120, 120
(0+60+60+120+120)÷5=72
Dark Kira
But the first HH has a higher probability than the other outcomes which all have the probability of 0,75*0,25==18,75%
Mantidactyle
Yup, it should be (120*.25 + 120*.1875 + 60*.375 + 0) which indeed does 75. I’m stupid :P
Sadroo
Well, the problem is that
TT(3/4*1/4), TH(3/4*1/4), HT(3/4*1/4), HH(3/4*1/4), HH(1/4)
0, 60, 60, 120, 120
the probability of TT, TH, HT, HH, HH is not the same. So you can’t just use (0+60+60+120+120)÷5=72 to calculate.
Sadroo
By the way, if the base damage is 0, the Muscle Band did not add 20 damage(*), which makes the average damage of Muscle Band 75 for 2, 107.5 for 3…
So no matter how many Energies are attached to Malamar-EX, the Trick Coin is always more effective than the Muscle Band.
(*)According to the rules: Figure out damage effects on your Active Pokémon based on Trainer cards or any other relevant effects. For example, if your Pokémon used an attack last turn that said, “During your next turn, each of this Pokémon’s attacks does 40 more damage (before applying Weakness and Resistance),” then add that in. Stop if the base damage is 0 (or if the attack does not do any damage at all). Otherwise, keep going.

Except there is an alternative to Trick Coin in Fliptini. Muscle Band is sill a possible way to up his average.
