Not a good supporter–there’s a 50% chance it has zero effect!
Four other supporters in this set later got reprinted, but (to no one’s surprise) Mary did not.

What if I told you there is a Trainer that has not only a 50% chance of not getting the desired effect, but makes it so you can’t play any more Trainers for this turn and your next one?

The effect of this card got reappropriated for Fennel’s Help in the JP-only EBB boxset.
It’s a bit of a shame, I reckon. Bill’s Maintenance recently got an SM6b reprint, Copycat is almost by design a future-proofed card who is being reprinted sans caveat, Pokémon Nurse is getting a special reprint later this year in Pokémon Card Game Classic.. meanwhile Mary’s Impulse gets “retconned” and Professor Oak’s Research also got re-appropriated (first as Shauna, and now again as Youngster). There doesn’t seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason as to why some Supporters get their effects re-appropriated, and it’s a shame the original set of Supporter cards¹ couldn’t have collectively been spared the embarrassment and left to be a perennial group of OGs.
¹ tbh, not exactly. I’m ignoring Bill’s Teleporter being retrained as a Supporter for VS, as well as Bill proper actually being the very first Supporter card with its 2001 retrain. I guess it’s more the original set of Supporters when considering conventional releases.
