Pokémon Power ⇢ Wild Growth
As long as Meganium is in play, each {G} Energy card attached to your {G} Pokémon instead provides {G}{G}. This power stops working while Meganium is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
{G}{G}{G}{G} → Soothing Scent : 40
The Defending Pokémon is now Asleep.

The aroma that rises from its petals contains a substance that calms aggressive feelings.

I see that the “Pokémon Power: Wild Growth” text is black instead of red.

That’s just one out of a megaton of mistakes that Wizards made when printing cards. This text should be printed in red.

Yeah, Jason Klaczynksi has a pretty long list of their mistranslations on his blog. (And even HIS long list is missing a few mistranslations I’ve heard about more recently!) https://jklaczpokemon.com/wotc-erratas/
I’ve seen this Meganium played a number of ways. Jason paired it with https://pkmncards.com/card/exeggutor-aquapolis-aq-12/ in Neo-Skyridge to aggressively target benched Pokémon (https://jklaczpokemon.com/neo-on/#meganium-exeggutor), and I’ve seen Hall of Fame players pair it with both https://pkmncards.com/card/venusaur-base-set-bs-15/ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Erxhn6fG01Q&t=36s) and https://pkmncards.com/card/dark-crobat-neo-destiny-n4-2/ (https://krillmeat.club/pkmn-card-manager/decks). Venusaur is a strong partner for Meganium because both are bulky stage 2’s that benefit from the Energy Trans/https://pkmncards.com/card/pokemon-center-base-set-bs-85/ combo, and because Meganium figuratively reduces Venusaur’s retreat cost to 1, letting Venusaur players forego the https://pkmncards.com/card/dodrio-jungle-ju-34/ usually played with it in other formats. The latter is strong because both Dark Crobat and Meganium are pretty cheap attackers with Wild Growth in effect, and because https://pkmncards.com/card/dark-golbat-team-rocket-ro-7/ and Dark Crobat can help you take prize cards faster with their Pokémon Powers.

Wild Growth will return (under the same name) in Generation 4 on GE Sceptile, and then in Generation 7 (as Jungle Totem) on SLG Venusaur. If current trends continue, we can expect it to show up again in Generation 10 on Torterra.

Looks like they skipped Torterra and gave it to Serperior for TCG Pocket. We’ll still have to see if Torterra is the next paper version though.

Okay, question on semantics here. Wild Growth makes grass energy cards count for two, but it doesn’t specify “Basic” energy. Is it more or less implied that it’s basic, because that’s what a Grass Energy card is, or does it also include special energy that provides grass.
Jack
I don’t know the answer for certain, but I would think that because it specifies “each {G} Energy _card_ attached”, it only affects Basic {G} Energy cards and not other cards–such as Rainbow Energy–that might provide {G} Energy (otherwise I’d expect it to say “each {G} Energy attached” instead). Curious if this is correct or not!

Q. Meganium doubles grass energy so if a rainbow energy counting as grass would be doubled, right?
A. Yes, but only as grass energy. (Jun 7, 2001 WotC Chat, Q72)

That ruling might be wrong. Check out later rulings that show how Rainbow Energy works with Wild Growth and other similar abilities.

All future versions of Wild Growth (Sceptile GE, Gardevoir NXD, Venusaur SLG, Galarian Weezing CRE, Charizard PGO) say “Basic Energy.” Meganium does not.

Wizards didn’t screw up the translation on this one. So in an unlimited format, Wild-Growth and Rainbow-Energy would provide {G}{G}, but only if it’s providing {G}.
So you could use a rainbow to provide {G}{G}, {G}{C}, or {C}{C} of an attack cost. But you couldn’t use it for {R}{G}. It’s a real shame the only non-rainbow-esc special energy Grass has is Aromatic-Energy.
This would be neat for a cube.

To me, “Grass Energy card” has to mean Basic Grass Energy – the text would say simply “Grass Energy” without the “card” if it were meant to work with Rainbow Energy since Rainbow Energy is not a Grass Energy card, it is a Special Energy card (that provides Grass Energy when attached to a Pokémon).
I double checked the Japanese text which also says “Grass Energy card” (Japanese: 「草」エネルギーカード). I also checked the Great Encounters Sceptile does specify “Basic Grass Energy” 「基の本草エネルギーカード」in Japanese as expected.
So I would say the translation for Meganium is accurate. I’d have to dig up Japanese QA to find the true Rainbow Energy interaction, I’d be curious if anyone can find that!

The Pokemon Card Neo 1 Handy Guide outlines the interaction for Rainbow Energy; 2 Grass, 1 of everything else.
And since I’m looking at it, it also happens to define the interaction with 1st Electrode; it doesn’t convert to 4, because the interaction is per card – effectively, Buzzzap and Wild Growth are overlapping/redundant in saying “treat this Electrode as a card that provides {G}{G} Energy”, but there is no multiplicative effect because neither are saying “treat this Electrode a card that provides twice as much Energy as it normally does”.
