Poké-BODY ⇢ Versatile
Mew ex can use the attacks of all Pokémon in play as its own. (You still need the necessary Energy to use each attack.)
{P}{C} → Power Move
Search your deck for an Energy card and attach it to Mew ex. Shuffle your deck afterward. Then, you may switch Mew ex with 1 of your Benched Pokémon.
· Pokémon-ex rule: When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Cool back then, but the new Mew EX will be terrible in this format.

I take it back. Go Empoleon and Accelgor decks!

Mew EX will help Klinklang builds as well vs. Mewtwo.

I think I like the idea of KOing a MEwtwo with a Night Spear better than trying to set up your own Xball. not that its always the best play, but it is a nice one.

Not necessarily, it would tend to lose more energy.

There are plenty of “fun” things you can experiment around with on this thing in casual matches. How many coin flips can YOU force the opponent to go through to hit you?
coolestman22
So it can use opponent’s attacks too? Sweet!
Although technically Mew Prime can too.

A lot of HP for a Mew! OH WAIT, it’s an “ex”. :/

Was this card played a lot? Interesting that it’s the one regular silver-border -ex that they chose for the Celebrations secret collection (Gardevoir-ex is a delta species, so it’s a different kind of -ex)

It was a pretty great and versatile card. It was the key component to one of the best decks at the time “Mewtric” where it would use Manectric‘s Disconnect attack in order to lock the opponent out of the game.
Stuart Newsby
Why didn’t people just use Manectric ex by itself? Were there too many Fighting-type threats?

I’m not 100% informed on that era, because I wasn’t playing competitively at the time, but I believe Medicham ex, and Lunatone could cause some problems. But just having Mew ex to exist as an alternate attacker, especially with a lot of options at its disposal, is a good thing on its own. Because of its Versatile Poke-Power, it could fit into a few different decks. I think there was another lock deck involving it. A great resource for these kinds of questions is Jason Klaczynski’s blog and old Card of the Day pages on Pojo.

There was a thick (4-3 or 4-4) Manectric ex line in the deck and you’d often attack with that. It was situational. Besides the obvious Weakness/Resistance reasons, running 4 Mew ex meant you had even more chances to get the turn 2 Disconnect (since now you had 8 “good” starters instead of just the 4 you’d have running only Electrike… if you started Mew you just needed to get an Electrike in play on T1, you didn’t have to start it). Mew ex could also use non-Disconnect attacks (especially because you could run Holon’s Electrode), so swinging with something like Roselia LM’s Flick Poison or Minun DX’s Sniff Out/Negative Spark was easy to do without having to retreat (and ofc you could look over your opponent’s board and see if any of *their* attacks were worth copying). Finally, if you had just one Manectric ex (a Stage 1) in play, you could copy it with all your Mew ex (a Basic, thus easier to get out); if you were running just Manectric, your board might be a bit shaky if you had 1 Manectric and had no other Electrike/Manectric in play, since if it got KO’d you would definitely not be Disconnecting next turn.
One reason to swing with Manectric ex over Mew ex (besides W/R): the 10 extra HP could make a difference!

Weird question, but could Mew ex use Manectric ex’s attack without discarding the energy? As the text for Manectric’s second attack says to discard all energy on Manectric ex, not “this pokémon”, and doesn’t have any text like “if you can’t discard energy this attack does nothing”
Twylis
Mew ex would still discard the energy as part of Mega Shock resolving, the “this pokemon” phrasing just didn’t exist yet. Compare this Mew ex’s Versatile with Gen 5 Mew EX’s Versatile for an example — it’s just a wording change, with no mechanical difference.
If you were to use Mega Shock with something like Zoroark GX’s Trickster GX though, you indeed wouldn’t need to discard any energy (unless for some reason you were paying for the attack with Rainbow Energy or just had random Lightning Energy on Zoroark GX)

Mew also makes it easier to swing with Deoxys ex’s Fastwave / Mewtwo delta (HP)’s Swift to hit into Safeguarders, without having to attach Energy to those Pokemon themselves.
