Remember when Legendaries were cool but useless?

This card had different artwork in Japan.
It’s believed that because of the similarity between it and the First Movie Promo, both using the same Sugimori stock with a similar angle and background, Wizards wished to further differentiate the two. Of course, there were other Mewtwo cards they still hadn’t released with completely original artwork if that was the case… In any event, regardless of their reasons, they had their own in house artist, Christopher Rush (artist of the Magic of the Gathering holy grail, Black Lotus), create an original piece. So if this card’s art gives you a very distinct “MTG vibe”, that’s why. And this is probably what a lot of the Pokemon art would’ve looked like if Wizards had indeed created the game.

“Energy Control” is like PK Beldum’s attack
