It’s said that a glimpse of a Milotic and its beauty will calm any hostile emotions you’re feeling.

Does this stop Boss’s Orders · Rebel Clash (RCL) #154?
007manyo
I think no, because that is an effect on your Pokemon, not you or your hand. It would stop cards like Marnie or N, though.
Martin
I understand this stops cards like Marnie (SSH) #169 and N (NVI) #92, but I feel I am feel I am missing some other cards that this also stops. It seems to make a distinction between “you OR your hand”. What cards are covered by the inclusion of “you”? If none, why is this card not worded as just “prevent all effects of that card done to your hand”, minus the “you or”?
Abry
May be like Umbreon & Darkrai-GX · Unified Minds (UNM) #125‘ Dark Moon?
“Your opponent can’t play” any Trainer cards from their hand during their next turn…
Abry, again
Phione‘s ability: Whirlpool Suction
Once during your turn (before your attack), if this Pokémon is on your Bench, you may have _your opponent_ switch their Active Pokémon with 1 of their Benched Pokémon.
Trevenant‘s Perplexing Forest : 20
You may have _your opponent_ switch their Active Pokémon with 1 of their Benched Pokémon.
Escape Rope maybe too
Omastar‘s Fossil Bind:
As long as you have fewer Pokémon in play than your opponent, _they can’t play_ any Item cards from their hand.
Martin
Thanks for the replies, Arby. I am unsure if any of these cards would covered by Milotic, however, as Milotic stipulates only Supporter cards, and not Abilities.
Some of your cards bring up ideas with me though. If those cards DID get prevented by Milotic, why would Boss’s Orders not be (“Switch 1 of _your opponents_ Benched Polemon”). Although with Boss’s Orders you get to choose, it would still “target” your opponent like these Abilities.
The reason I ask is because I plan to run this in my cube with older cards, things like Seeker · Triumphant (TM) #88, and there are going to be a few interaction questions that come up.
Abry
Uh, I’m blind, I focused on the last part and not the “supporter” part. I’m sorry, checking by searching keywords I have to agree to your op; it seems all cards refers to the hand or a specific card, and not “your opponent” directly (except for Marnie, N and the similar cards that say “Your opponent shuffles…”; maybe Guzma?).
Martin
Thanks for your thoughts, Abry, it has been a big help. I found an official ruling here; https://compendium.pokegym.net/all-rulings-by-date/. I feel it’s best to run it as just a hand-disruprion preventer, and ignore the confusing “you or” clause. Looks like that text was added without any thought as to what it actually adds to the card’s coverage.
Abry
Do you think that the “Team Battle” format (2v2 and 3v3 maybe), though now is a “for fun” format, may be involved in this? Is that format going to be renewed/restored by TPC? In that case, Milotic protects you and not “your Team-mate”, right?
LeoBN
I looked for other Supporters that should be stopped by this Milotic’s Ability:
Rocket’s Admin. · Team Rocket Returns (TR) #86
Team Galactic’s Wager · Mysterious Treasures (MT) #115
Team Galactic’s Mars · Secret Wonders (SW) #126
Looker’s Investigation · Platinum (PL) #109
Cyrus’s Initiative · Supreme Victors (SV) #137
Judge · Unleashed (UL) #78
Team Rocket’s Trickery · Undaunted (UD) #78
Hooligans Jim & Cas · Dark Explorers (DEX) #95
Hugh · Boundaries Crossed (BCR) #130
Ghetsis · Plasma Freeze (PLF) #101
Ace Trainer · Ancient Origins (AOR) #69
Hex Maniac · Ancient Origins (AOR) #75 partially
Delinquent · BREAKpoint (BKP) #98
Psychic’s Third Eye · BREAKpoint (BKP) #108
Ilima · Sun & Moon (SUM) #121
Team Skull Grunt · Sun & Moon (SUM) #133
Wicke · Burning Shadows (BUS) #127
Mars · Ultra Prism (UPR) #128
Morty · Lost Thunder (LOT) #186
Jessie & James · Hidden Fates (HIF) #58
Sabrina’s Suggestion · Hidden Fates (HIF) #65
Oleana · Rebel Clash (RCL) #163
Note that all of these Supporters affect “your hand” and not “you”. I couldn’t find an example of Supporter for it.
LeoBN
Regadring to affect you, I couln’t find a Supporter that does that. However, there is a Marowak’s Ability that prevent effects of attacks done to you or your hand by your opponent’s Pokémon. It’s the only other card I’ve found that has “to you or your hand”:
Marowak · Fates Collide (FCO) #37
This remembers me of attacks that can affect the player. Here are some other examples, as Abry posted some before:
Manectric ex · Deoxys (DX) #101
Vileplume · Legends Awakened (LA) #45
Aerodactyl GL · Rising Rivals (RR) #55
Spiritomb · Phantom Forces (PHF) #55
Giratina-EX · Ancient Origins (AOR) #57
Noivern-GX · Burning Shadows (BUS) #99
Alolan Golem-GX · Crimson Invasion (CIN) #34
Shadow Rider Calyrex V · Chilling Reign (CRE) #074
Martin
Thanks for this, Leon, especially going through all that effort with the Supporter cards. Looks like it’s just a random bit of text to “tease” you that Boss’s Orders might be prevented, but isn’t XD
As an aside, after playing enough MTG, had it not been for this discussion I’d probably have said that this *would* stop anything that “targets” you. That would have included Boss’s Orders, Seeker, etc. Alas, Pokémon is a bit more vague with its wording of things :)
Martin
I suppose they might be covering all their bases, incase they ever print a Supporter that puts an effect on your opponent. Or maybe they already have a plan to print a card with kind of effect. Something like “Until your next turn, your opponent can’t play any Item cards”, on a Supporter.
Abry
What about Avery · Chilling Reign (CRE) #130? “your opponent discards Pokémon from their Bench until they have 3”
Martin
Good spot. I’d say yes, but then again I’d say yes to Boss’s Orders, so my opinion is void here XD But what about Flannery or Agatha too? Similarly, Seeker, that I brought up earlier? These all disrupt your opponent’s Pokémon, which doesn’t seem to count as disrupting your opponent. Avery does stipulate “your opponent discards Pokémon”, rather than _you_ discarding _their_ Pokémon, so maybe?
But the further question that arises from this; what about Team Yell Grunt? “Put an Energy attached to 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon into their hand”. If you’re not affecting the cards already in their hand, does it count as affecting “their hand”? I’d say yes.
Abry
If Boss’s orders was spelled as escape rope then I think Milotic would prevent it, but it refers to the player moving opponent benched/active Pokémon so it’s not on the player or player’s hand…
LightYearLiam
https://compendium.pokegym.net/category/5-trainers/avery/ It does protect from Avery, because technically Avery is an effect on the player.
