Following comments made on Dark Feraligatr and Shining Steelix, this card’s first attack is part of the “Hyper Beam” (re:”Destruction Beam”) family of moves. The original name of the attack, [はかいのうず 𝐇𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐢 𝐧𝐨 𝐮𝐳𝐮] could’ve been translated as “Destruction Whirlpool” (or something like that..) to be a bit more accurate, or else “Hyper Whirlpool” so English players would have a better chance of picking up on the “Hey, this is supposed to remind you of all the Hyper Beam attacks that also discard Energy.”
There are a couple other cards in this set with the same thing going on; Lt. Surge’s Magnemite (G1 50) and Sabrina’s Venonat both have Energy-removing 𝐇𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐢 attacks that don’t try to evoke the “Hyper” of the localized “Hyper Beam”, and aren’t consistent with the “Crushing” of (some of the) later 𝐇𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐢 attacks.
