Attach this card to 1 of your Pokémon in play. That Pokémon may use this card’s attack instead of its own. At the end of your turn, discard Mystery Plate ⍺.
{C} → Desert Burn
If your opponent has 5 or more Prizes, search your deck for a Trainer card, show it to your opponent, and put it into your hand. If your opponent has only 1 Prize, the Defending Pokémon is now Burned, Paralyzed, and Poisoned.

These look cool, were these ever competitive?

The first part of the attack doesn’t instruct you to shuffle afterwards. We’re getting into older Yu-Gi-Oh card territory here.

Did you have to actually shuffle your deck? If not, this would be good early game to just completely stack your deck.

I never learned the official ruling for Yu Gi Oh. However, upon teaching the store owner for our league location to play, I did learn that Magic has a rule involving not having to shuffle if the card doesn’t say.

I was talking about Mystery Plate Alpha, but I guess it would be cool to hear the Yugioh ruling too.

I checked the Compendium for that and didn’t come up with anything. I am pretty sure this was before the legality of declumping came into question, so I’m not sure if there were any people playing this card to stack their deck.

At least in modern pokemon, any card that looks into the deck has to shuffle it. It would be interesting if anyone can translate the Japanese cards, because those inconsistencies were usually introduced by WOTC
Ambassador
This instructs you to shuffle your deck afterward. It’s a translation error, and when WOTC was issuing rulings and errata in good faith (vs. trying to change the TCG into what they thought would be a better game) this would’ve been an instance of one they woud’ve errated. By Skyridge, their Organized Play program was intentionally in dissaray and I’m sure anyone asking about how to play the card was just given a situational ruling by the judge.
