I always hate when people say gen 1 Pokemon are the most memorable. I’ll admit it has more memorable Pokemon than any of the others, but honestly, who ever remembers Parasect?

For people who played the video games, Parasect was an amazing Mewtwo counter. It had Spore as a signature move before Breloom got it, and Bug was the only type super-effective against Psychic.

For people who didn’t? Yeah just get off the pedestal and realize that whole “purist” thing is ridiculous. Seriously, there’s kids who are 12 claiming that the only good generation was the first, haha.

See, the people who’ve played the games competitively at any point (really either VGC orTCG) are those who remember the obscure Pokemon. By extension, they’re the people who tend to respect newer Pokemon more.

My brother is one of those “First generation is the only one that matters” types, and its really annoying trying to convince him otherwise. On the flip side, I don’t really care for 4th generation, simply because I played the games two years later than they came out, sped through the games, and didn’t come back into the TCG until last year. But at least I admit there some good Pokemon in that generation. The g1 banwaggoners probably never even touched the later games. And I’m pretty damn sure they never learned how to play the TCG.

“What’s Dunsparce? Is that like Mewthree and Charcolt?” “No really I was just going through Dark Cave and it latched onto my face.”

Funny thing about the “purists,” a lot of them did play later games, and I’ve seen some who collect the cards. I don’t know if they’re just looking for something to complain about or what. The argument I don’t get is, “Gen1 had the only creative designs.” They’re good, but some are pretty bland and too much like animals, and they didn’t really “improve” I guess until Gen2, where they started looking more distinct. Even Gen3, weak link of the series, had a snake with a knife tail and a torpedo-shark!

Back when Bug was the only thing super effective against Psychic, Parasect’s most powerful Bug move was…Leech life. It was a terrible counter.

Your other options for Bug were String Shot (no damage at all), Twineedle (only found on Beedrill, which Mewtwo would normally OHKO), and Pin Missile, a terrible move found on Beedrill and Jolteon.

I never played in actual tournaments as a kid since my mom thought Pokemon would be a wasted investment. But I do know what worked as a kid against my neighborhood friends, and I know that I found lots of people online that agreed to using Spore + Leech Life. And even if you didn’t use Leech Life, Spore was still your best bet because Sleep Powder never hit and you didn’t want Mewtwo attacking.

My friend’s getting a Parasect tattoo (with a Focus Sash on, leet item choice!)
It’s a shame there’s no good cards of it… the one from Neo series is ALMOST amazing!

Almost Amazing? It’s excellent. Awesome for Riptide style decks

If it just affected Trainers too then I’d use it in several decks! If they made a new one that also affected Supporters then maybe mill would be playable in U150 again XD (damn new Lysandre!)

I remember Parasect, because it’s a zombie crab thing with a huge mushroom, that’s taken over it’s body.
