I just noticed the supporting Pokémon were selected based on their competitive relevance throughout the Sword & Shield series. To the average collector though, it might just seem kind of random.
It kind of has a Gen 8 Pokémon theme, but there is Crobat lol. And several Pokémon are part of a larger duo/trio.

It originated as a promo in a Japanese collector’s box called Precious Collector Box: Sword & Shield, which could be preordered from May 10 to May 25. Dark Phantasma, which debuted Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR, released May 13 — which inclines me to believe they thought it would make a much bigger competitive splash than it actually did*.
*not to say it wasn’t good, but it definitely didn’t have the same impact as most these other guys
