    And thus, Electric’s bench-hate was born! Compare this to the vast majority of the base set electric types: electric’s original non-paralysis gimmick, which has stuck on to this day , was its willingness to risk damaging itself to harm the opponent. This was apparently considered to be “lame” by the designers.

    Considering the fact that fire and electric would inevitably wind up as the rarest of all of the types that were printed at the time, it made little sense for the two types to be given “drawback” abilities, especially when water got an ability that net helped it. Still, interesting that the TCG makers tried to “fix” the issues that plagued their earliest printings almost immediately.
