{C} → Sudden Growth
Attach any number of basic Energy cards from your hand to Politoed.
{W}{C}{C} → Frog Hop : 30+
Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 30 damage plus 20 more damage.
{W}{W}{C}{C}{C} → Energy Splash : 70
Move 2 {W} Energy cards attached to Politoed to 1 or 2 of your Benched Pokémon. (You may put both on the same Pokémon or 1 each on 2 different Pokémon.) If you have no Benched Pokémon, ignore this effect.

Politoed is an interesting card with a lot of potential combos. I’m not surprised it (probably) didn’t see much play in North America given the goings on at the time, but I feel like it might’ve had some success in Japan. For lack of documentation, who knows. TCGOne bros, try this one out for me
· Sudden Growth is Energy acceleration in a format that doesn’t really have Energy acceleration to this degree. There’s an obvious combo with Fisherman (± Juggler as part of a deck?), to the degree Fisherman’s artwork even has Politoed (and the rest of the evolution family) in the artwork.
· Energy Splash’s movement of {W} Energy to the Bench allows you to circumvent Suicune’s Pure Body and Articuno’s Water Immunity.
· Most people will look at this card and probably think Sudden Growth for 2 {W} + Boost Energy for Energy Splash next turn, but the approach would leave Politoed with 0 attached Energy at the end of that turn. I’d propose using Sudden Growth to attach as many {W} Energy as you have on hand, and moreso looking at Bounce Energy as an option for a Politoed deck (rationale in the comments of that card), which would be relatively novel given the entire community seems to have had trouble figuring out the “point” of Bounce Energy for over two decades. (Something worth mentioning here; if you can’t be bothered to hop over to the Bounce Energy comments; you aren’t necessarily attaching the Bounce Energy to Politoed, right? It could be an option for the Benched Pokémon you Energy Splashed {W} to during your previous turn.)

My LGS runs a format where all WotC-era sets are legal, and this guy is an absolute house. Splash can kick Rainbow energies to your bench to power up differently typed attackers, and if you want to mainly use Politoed then you can also use Aquapolis Espeon to bounce the kicked energies back to hand before reattaching them to Toed (especially with Sudden Growth). The Espeon/Politoed duo also has other powerful interactions such as allowing you to reuse Warp Energy and take full advantage of Pokecenter/Poke Nurse-type effects (bounce all energies, heal fully, put all energies back with Growth). Very versatile mon given the era in which it was printed.
