An interesting quirk of the Ancient Trait era in the TCG was that each Pokemon that got an Ancient Trait card also had a *non* Ancient Trait card printed at the same time. Almost like, one of the Pokemon was the normal version and the other was the “ancient” version??

Consider this: no EX Pokémon got an ancient trait. Only their mega evolutions did (eg Mega Sceptile EX, mega Tyranitar ex).
So, perhaps the ancient trait signifies that it’s a stronger version of the same Pokémon. Like, a baby mega evolution.
