Ability ⇢ Harmonics
Whenever you attach an Energy card from your hand to 1 of your Pokémon, except with an attack, Ability, or Trainer card, attach up to 2 Energy cards to that Pokémon instead of 1.
{W}{C}{C} → Hypno Splash : 80
Your opponent’s Active Pokémon is now Asleep.

Its singing voice is its chief weapon in battle. This Pokémon’s Trainer must prioritize the daily maintenance of its throat at all costs.

I wonder why they didn’t make this card fairy-type instead of water-type. Primarina missed out on its last chance to get a pink Fairy-type card.

Good point. There aren’t many stage 2 Fairy types either, so it would’ve been warrented. There’s an abundance of Water type cards (as well as Grass type cards, Decidueye hasn’t gotten a Psychic card yet). Despite this, Incineroar is a rarer Fire type and wound up getting a Dark type variant.

Anyone know how this interacts with Alpha Growth? Obviously Alpha Growth can’t trigger off of this being an Ability, but this should be able to trigger off of Alpha Growth since it isn’t. So if I were to attach an Energy normally to something with Alpha Growth and it allows me to attach 2 instead of 1, would this allow me to replace both of those with Harmonics, attaching 4 Energy in total?

I tried looking this up for you and am stumped. This question was apparently asked and answered on the PTCGO forum but that forum is now gone and I can’t find it on archive.org (doesn’t look like Google cached it either). pokemon-card.com’s Q&A doesn’t appear to have a direct question regarding an interplay between the two.
I’d try the combo out in Live and see if it works or not. Presumably the team were tasked with ensuring all interactions already programmed into PTCGO would work identically in Live, and so you’ll get your answer by seeing if it works in the game.
IMO they shouldn’t cumulatively stack. They both effectively say “in an event where you are allowed to attach 1 Energy card from your hand to a Pokémon, you may attach 2 instead,” but neither say what happens “in an event you are allowed to attach 2 Energy cards…” It’s an event outside of their scope they don’t speak to, so there’s no ability to stack one on top of the other.

You can’t test this in Live; BW and XY series cards haven’t been implemented yet. Even if they were, I *really* wouldn’t count on a (potential) interaction like this to match PTCGO’s handling or even TPCi’s/PCL’s intent. Too many known bugs in cards relevant to Standard stick around for months at a time, let alone Expanded-only stuff.

I’d imagine as part of the hand-off from PTCGO to Live would be the list of idiosyncratic things they had to double-check and/or fix the codebase for, and since someone asked about it on the PTCGO forum, this might’ve ended up on that list – unless it was already working as intended, in which case it wasn’t added to such a list and there’d be nothing that’d (necessarily?) prompt Live’s team to double-check this interaction..?

Some of the bugs introduced to preexisting cards have me convinced Live’s devs aren’t utilizing PTCGO’s codebase at all. Things like the Amazing Rare Rayquaza incorrectly calculating damage by the number of energy discarded instead of the number of *types* discarded, Counter Energy overlooking its “if this card is attached to a Pokemon” clause (making it searchable via Flint Stone, discardable via Heat Factory, etc.), and Oranguru’s Instruct Ability being infinitely reusable from the discard pile. (Rayquaza was patched a couple months before it rotated, but the other two are ongoing issues.)

Generally the most literal interpretation of the wording is the correct one. Alpha Growth attaches two “Energy card[s] from your hand to 1 of your Pokémon, except with an attack, Ability, or Trainer card” so Harmonics would trigger when attaching the first Energy from Alpha Growth, then trigger again when attaching the second Alpha Growth Energy. Not an official ruling, but based on the rulings that indicate that using either the ancient trait or the ability will cause other cards that depend on attaching energy from hand causing an effect to happen twice.
