After so many years I had assumed Oak was forever safe from getting Supporter’d, but he now joins the ranks of Bill and Erika.
At least, I assume he does? I have no idea if this absolute trainwreck of a product has any bearing on rulings whatsoever, especially when it comes to the different flavor of trainwreck that the Unlimited format is.

It doesn’t, actually! The product contains an insert that says:
POKÉMON TRADING CARD GAME
CLASSIC
WELCOME, TRAINER!
If you’re a longtime player of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, you may notice that some older cards have been updated for Pokémon TCG Classic. Be sure to read these cards carefully for possible changes! For example, Professor Oak is now a Supporter card, so you can play only one per turn.
Please note that any updates to the cards in this product apply only to this product—they don’t change how existing cards work in other play environments.

Speaking of the “trainwreck” that is Unlimited… in Trainer’s Mag vol 14 (published Jan 2002), the announcement for Battle Road Spring 2002 describes the tournament regulations (pp 24-25). There’s a list of Supporters (サポーター適用カード)… and Professor Oak is on that list!
(Interestingly enough this is only for the 16+ age division; the younger age division used a different Neo-on regulation.)

Oh, nice to know these cards have no implications for earlier prints!
Though the fact Oak got Supporter status way back then, even in an isolated context, is fascinating. Combined with Bill’s unlocalized eCard-era promo, it’s probably fair to say that a lot of these Trainers have been internally regarded as Supporters the entire time, whether they got a print indicating such or not.
