His New Theory would prove his research wrong.
Curtis
Professor Oak used to be a fan of discarding hands and drawing 7. Because of his fame from drawing 7 cards, he eventually inspired a member of Team Rocket to impersonate him.
Impostor Oak went around Palette Town forcing everyone to shuffle their hands away for a new hand of 7. He was eventually thwarted by the original Oak, but he would have his revenge! Taking inspiration from Oak’s original ideology, he began discarding a card form his own hand, forcing others to shuffle/draw 4. He even invented a machine that switched out his opponent’s prizes. What a jerk!
Eventually, the real Professor Oak would find the idea of shuffling and drawing, as apposed to discarding, intriguing and began research right away. In the early stages, he would only allow the drawing of 5 cards at a time. This proved to be too little, so it was time for a change. He had to travel across the land to meet an old friend in Unova: Professor Juniper.
As Oak and Juniper caught up on old times, visiting as usual, Oak was behaving a bit differently. Instead of discarding or shuffling cards away, he was simply drawing 3 and placing one of his cards at the bottom of his deck. He was in the middle of an identity crisis. Juniper quickly called up their buddy Professor Elm to sort things out.
Elm told Juniper of a trick he used to do in the old days, before Supporters were invented. He used to shuffle cards into his deck and draw 7, much like Oak’s Impostor used to force his foes to do, only he’d do it to himself, with the restriction of not allowing anymore trainers to be played that turn. Oak was struck with inspiration. The five cards he’d been drawing for research weren’t enough, but the restriction required to draw 7 was too devastating. He needed to find middle ground. He needed to create…. A New Theory.
I’m sure by now we’ve all heard the glories of Professor Oak’s new Theory, and rightfully so. Allowing one to shuffle their hand away for 6 new ones is a huge idea, one we can think all our Pokemon Professors for (the in-universe ones of course. Us real professors had nothing to do with it.) Professor Oak taught his old methods to Professor Juniper, who still uses them today.
I think I set a record for longest comment yet.
