I always wondered why Pumpkaboo’s Night March attack costed more than Joltik’s Night March attack, but I finally realized that it was probably to prevent Pumpkaboo from being able to use Night March for a single Energy with Dimension Valley in play. If you wanted to do that, you’d have to pair Mew EX with Dimension Valley and Joltik and concede to giving up two prize cards.
… and then Mew FCO was printed.
This was part of why Murkrow from PAL being able to attack for one Darkness Energy felt like such a big deal. It wasn’t the first time a Night March-type attack could be used for a single basic Energy, but it sure was a lot simpler.
