Its cute act is a ruse. When victims let down their guard, they find their items taken. It attacks with sharp claws.

This artwork reminds me of vending series Bulbasaur. I’m sure the Japanese audience would have gotten the allusion… the Pokédex mounted on a shelf with wires coming down from it, the Poké Balls in beakers on the shelf and table, and the lab setup with glass chambers linked by pipes with red-and-blue balls threaded along them are all recognizable details. For that matter, what is Purrloin doing in Kanto? It seems especially odd given the Tag Team era’s many references to the idealized Kanto of Let’s GO, where not even a shiny orb will convince the professor’s contacts to let foreign Pokémon into the region. (Evidently Celio RG is still on the Sevii Isles. Perhaps Bill BS2 finally decided cruise ships weren’t too highfalutin for his tastes and went there instead?)
My one question… what does stealing Bulbasaur have to do with discarding tools?

I didn’t realise this until it was posted on the @pokeca_art_life Instagram this morning, but you’re right – both illustrations are even by the same artist! https://www.instagram.com/p/C4pljLqKndD/
