Choose 1 of your Basic Pokémon in play. If you have a Stage 1 or Stage 2 card that evolves from that Pokémon in your hand, put that card on the Basic Pokémon. (This counts as evolving that Pokémon.)

For this rare candy in particular, since it’s different from other Rare Candy prints, does the evolution rule that doesn’t allow you to evolve the turn you play a Pokemon apply here?

Hello, Psykicked!
I’ll explain, but the first thing I want to do is let you know where to find information like this:
Play! Pokémon Rules & Resources page located at
https://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/about/tournaments-rules-and-resources/
You’ll see several .pdfs you can view or download, and one is called “TCG Errata”. Sometimes, a card is printed incorrectly. Other times, the people in charge of the game thinks the effect needs to change, which can be because the card is too strong, too weak, too complicated, or more subtle changes in how the game is handled cause the card to make more sense if it works another way. You’ll find examples of all of these if you read the TCG errata document. An erratum (“errata” is the plural form of the word) is an official ruling that tells people to “Play the card as if it was written this way”, where “this” is the new wording of the erratum.
Shortly before the release of the Black & White TCG expansion, Rare Candy went from having the effect above to having its current effect. When a card receives an erratum, all older copies are to be played as if it had the text from the erratum. So even if you used that older copy, you would have to play it according to the new wording. When the newer version of a card differs from the old, you may only use the older version if there are no mechanical in how it works. That may sound odd, but sometimes you can tell someone to do the exact same thing but word it differently. If that is the case, you may still use the older versions of the cards. If the wording is too different, however, so that they don’t work quite the same way in game, then you cannot use the older version at all UNLESS an erratum was issued to bring it in line with the current version.
I hope this helps!
