“You flipped tails, now you have to put 200 damage counters on it because I said so!”

There was a reason no kids in my neighborhood played this card when this set was still new.

At least it has to be from your hand. This would be even more broken if you could combine it with Pokemon Flute.

According to Bulbapedia, the original text says 2 damage counters.

To be fair, if you stepped on a mine, I’m pretty sure die, or at least be unable to continue battling. By taking out the part that actually determines what it was, they’ve made it even more like a minefield.

In the real world, but these are Pokemon mines, and placed by team Rocket no less (which is why no one knows where they are apparently, judging from the text). The worst that’ll happen is being covered in soot and a bad case of “dizzy eyes”.

I have a little bit of a funny story with this card. I was still missing quite a few common and uncommon trainer cards for my collection at the time. So since I didn’t feel like spending a dollar or more on each specific one I needed, I figured I tried my luck and got a huge random stack of them on eBay for like five bucks. I was going through them and I noticed that both of the Rocket’s Minefield Gyms actually had the proper amount of damage listed. So I was like; “Oh cool, I didn’t know they corrected this”, and just put in my binder without much thought.
Much, much later on I was looking through some old TCG forum somewhere, for something… An somebody happen to bring up the corrected version of this card, and most of the people responding didn’t even know it existed. As it turns out it’s apparently pretty dang rare and a bit of an oddity. Typically after the first few printings if they don’t catch an error, they say screw it, and issue an errata if need be. But for whatever reason they corrected this extremely late in the run. So late in fact, there are far fewer corrected ones then there are even 1st Edition versions. So for an older set uncommon, which normally worth fractions of a dollar, this one regularly sells for over $20.

Gapejaw Bog is a much more carefully-written version of this Stadium.
