Anyone going to run as a consistency booster?

I think this might decrease the consistency, actually.

In limited, it increases consistency due to the slower pace of the format and benefits from sharing a set with devolution spray.
In modified , it gets really hairy, and such “will this help my deck” questions require some pretty hard number crunching to answer (definitely out of place in a card game marketed to kids…). I would not advise this in modified.

In unlimited, you could theoretically do something nasty with this , devolution spray, and broken time space, but you have better things to do

This is like a power creep’d Froslass (it even shares its status as a pretty stage 1 Pokémon), but that was hit-or-miss at the time of its printing. I think the concept of a consistency booster that requires an evolution to get pulled off is a bit too unstable for this to be dominant, but a tutor is a tutor.

10 HP more? Not much power creep.

Well, it has to do with the fact that its attack averages 40 damage with a 50% chance of paralysis, as opposed to something that doesn’t work at all without stadiums

Certainly a fun card to run with Victini. Will work well with the upcoming Poison Trainers. :)

I can’t speak for when it was standard legal, but in Gym Leader Challenge format, it’s a highly played card for grass decks. Andrew Mahone (Tricky Gym on Youtube) popularized it for his format, and now it’s selling for $40 minimum after not being with nearly that much months ago.

I wonder what other cards have been affected by GLC? Also now I have to check my LGS’s bulk bin to try and find a copy

Good luck LGSs have caught on to GLC. Mine is selling this card for 40$. Andrew really messed up with GLC…

Guzzlord from Cosmic Eclipse is now selling for 15$ because of GLC….

Not sure I follow how Andrew “really messed up.” Seems to me like he created an awesome format from nothing, and made tons of cards viable and useful! Otherwise, no one would care about Roserade or Guzzlord.

Every format has powerful cards that become popular. It’s pretty silly to be upset that a format raised prices for otherwise useless bulk.

Does anyone know why this card is so randomly expensive? I’m guessing it’s because it was good in the game but still

card is still expensive because of a fanmade format called Gym Leader Challenge or GLC for short.
      main limitations are
      monochrome type deck
one of each pokemon per deck
      BW to present
      no rule box pokemon

so cards with OP abilities like in the BW era are very valued for the format, and are effectively heavily controlled by market. see gabite DRX 89 as another example.
