Unless I’m mistaken–I believe that this is the most recent Sugimori Pokemon illustration that is *original* artwork designed for the card, not merely repurposed from previous stock art.

If you’re talking cards in general, I think Giovanni’s Scheme in Breakthrough is the most recent Sugimori-attributed card artwork that isn’t the typical stock art. If you’re talking specifically Pokémon, you’re probably correct – though it’s worth mentioning this artwork appeared to the public before this card did, as part of some kind of promotional tour for Platinum. It’s been too long now for me to remember the details so anyone interested can search it up, but Sugimori was showing off various artwork and concept art for Platinum at an expo of some kind, and this was one of the pieces included. (The implication here being this artwork might’ve also shown up in a game guide or manual, vs. being solely made with the TCG in mind? Hard to say for sure for lack of familiarity with JP materials it may have shown up in.)
