basics are becoming more scarier

By itself it isn’t broken, but with Prism Energy · Next Destinies (NXD) #93, Catcher, Eviolite, etc it makes 6C and other Big Basic decks a lot stronger.

Basic Pokemon have already gained a lot of advantages, I don’t know why they’re giving them more…

All these cards that support Hoppip are making it even better!

This was always a case of overkill basic support that was almost blatantly designed to help keep Pokemon EX as chase rares that would drive the sales of packs and completely dominate constructed format tournaments, but I’m sure the developers couldn’t have imagined that it would become an integral component in a specific deck type that would wind up taking THREE FOURTHS of a year’s masters division. Now that it’s rotating out, genesect and virizion won’t be able to conduct their insane tagteam tactics without paying a toll.
Then again, who knows… the developers might see fit to provide it with a functional reprint in the next pack, or the pack after that.

This card is returning in Scarlet and Violet under the name of Beach Court. Unlike this card, though, it thankfully seems that Beach Court is *not* part of an epidemic of profit-driven Basic favoritism.
