“NC Empire”? Did North Carolina finally conquer South Carolina?

NC Empire is a Japanese “graphic design association” that is very overt about being inspired by The Designers Republic, a graphic design studio based out of England, and so the “Empire” is probably a spin on “Republic”, though I must say I haven’t thought to consider what the “NC” stands for. The latter did a lot of artwork and graphic design for album covers, video games (mostly sony), and really defined a corner of the visual language of the 90s. NC Empire isn’t quite on their level yet, but I was already familiar with the name and the artstyle from their work on a number of Japanese hardtek albums, maybe even as early as 2014? I still kind of find it nuts they do Pokémon card art.
