It rubs its snout on the ground to find and dig up food. It sometimes discovers hot springs.

A fitting debut for Swinub. Its offensive and defensive powers are nothing to be thrilled about, but a water type card with a lightning resistance is pretty interesting in its own right.

This is also the debut of “Powder Snow,” which has become a staple attack for ice ‘mons in every generation of the TCG since.

As well, I think Powder Snow is something of a debut in its own right insofar as introducing Sleep as TCG proxy for the FRZ status condition in the video games, alongside Paralysis. And emphasis on alongside, as it’s not replacing it but deliberately co-existing with it. You can notice this when you look up instances of the use of “Freezing” in attack names in the TCG – some of these cause Paralysis, some cause Sleep, and some others even have “if heads Paralysis, if tails Sleep”. Up until Swinub, the TCG had *solely* been using Paralysis as a proxy for the freezing condition – as seen on cards with Ice Beam or Freeze Dry as attacks.
