To “‘beat’ or ‘flog’ a dead horse” is to do something entirely pointless which cannot result in any productive end. What a fitting pair of attack names for the first card of what is largely a reprint set.

Most of the new stuff in BW: Legendary Treasures ended up being duds, but some of the reprints were actually useful. Some made a difference with regards to set rotation/card legality (not necessarily right away), while for others it just just another chance at getting a good card, plus increasing the overall supply to lower prices.
Not to beat a dead horse, but reprint sets can be really great in a TCG (and not just Pokémon), it is just more people seem to remember flops like Base Set 2 and not awesome sauce like the Legendary Collection. Legendary Treasures falls somewhere in between those two.
I know I sound like I am harping, so let me say that I absolutely love the wordplay involved, to the point where I wish I could just agree with you. XD
