Gotta appreciate the gorgeous borders the EX’s in this set have, as well as the “alpha” effects on some of the normal Pokemon in the set
Having never heard of this one before it looks like I missed out on something almost magical, but I can still appreciate from afar today thanks to sites like this one

I mean, it’s still a $2 card in spite of all the recent price spikes for EX’s (Especially Full Arts and Mega’s). You can still bring the magic into your binder!
And yeah, glad to hear somebody else articulating what they love about EX’s after all the CGI art hate I hear. What are your opinions on the 5BAN Graphics Kalos Pokémon? https://pkmncards.com/?s=rarity%3Acommon%2Cuncommon%2Crare%2Crare-holo+series%3Axy+%405ban-graphics+type%3Apokemon I’m a big fan of them because of their high-detail backgrounds with lifelike lighting and shadow, but a lot of people I talk to say these were their least favorite cards ever.

I will admit, at first view I was a little “meh” about it, but after a good slow viewing of the gallery they almost look like a precursor to Pokemon Go models, which is very neat with the reaslism

Interesting observations! And yeah, realism is a big selling point on these for me. I mean, https://pkmncards.com/card/goomy-flashfire-flf-72/ features probably the most detailed forest floors of any illustration, complete with moss, clover, dewdrops, wilting leaves and more, and the pathway from https://pkmncards.com/card/floette-flashfire-flf-64/ feels like an actual garden you could walk right into.
I certainly enjoyed Sword and Shield, but the 3D rendering of these cards is just so much more evocative than the 3D rendering of those games. 5BAN made as strong a first impression on me as Yuka Morii simply because both of their art styles departed from the two dimensional, anime-style mediums I was seeing from other illustrators.
Of course, I loved the CGI of EX’s for completely different reasons. They always felt so dynamic and tastefully framed, their power overflowing from the frame and into the margins of the card. Is that kind of how you feel about them?
(Looking at my 27 EX’s as I speak. Nearly half of them are the ones from Evolutions.)
