im waiting for the day power creep grows enough that I can evolve a basic pokemon with 10hp left into its stage 1 from an older set and have it immediately die because the older stage 1 has less hp than the newer basic

There’s a few examples already! Some newer Growlithe cards have 90 HP, while several older Arcanine cards have 80 HP (the old Wizards promo has 70 HP, in fact). I’m sure there are several others, but that’s the first one that came to mind.

The most extreme example I can think of is using one of the latest Kabuto to evolve into Fossil Kabutops and lose 30 HP in the process
