Pokémon Power ⇢ [Darkness]
Whenever a {D} Pokémon damages 1 of your Pokémon, reduce that damage by 30 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). This power stops working if you have more than 1 Unown D in play. (This power works even if Unown D is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.)
{P} → Hidden Power : 10
· Unown rule: You may have up to 4 Basic Pokémon cards in your deck with Unown in their names.

Their shapes look like hieroglyphs on ancient tablets. It is said that the two are somehow related.

It stops working if…. more than one… is in play? That’s an absolutely bizarre restriction, but i suppose it’s fitting that it replaces the status restriction.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this prevents bench-hitting damage. As a counter to dark decks in casual matches, this is some of the best tech you could ever get

This was really nice if you played a Tyranitar deck way back in the Neo era. Kill your opponent’s babies, save your entire Bench.

I’m not sure if this was translated correctly.
自分の場の「アンノーン」が「悪」ポケモンからダメージを受けるとき、そのダメージは「-30」される。自分の場のほかのアンノーン「D」の「DARK df」がはたらいているとき、この力は、はたらかない。
I’m not super confident I’m translating it correctly, but the way the EN text and the JP text is written has a nuanced difference with meaningful impact. Let’s say you already have an Unown D in play. When you play a second one;
– EN: the second Unown D will shut down both instances of the Power. (A quirk of the way this is written is that if you play the Unown D from Diamond & Pearl, it will shut down the first Unown D’s Power even though the Unown D you’ve just played doesn’t have the same Power!)
– JP: the second Unown D’s Power will not be able to activate, but the first Unown D’s Power shouldn’t be affected.
It should also be noted that the function of the power is different, as well. Unown D is only providing the damage reduction for *other Unown*, and not *all* Pokémon on your field. I’m noticing this while trying to find out whether Neo Tyranitar saw much play back in the day, and my impression is JP never played the Tyranitar+Unown D combo …because no such combo existed. I suspect WOTC also – probably deliberately – mistranslated Unown M and Unown N to expand their effects as well.

Yeah, this is a pretty big mistranslation! It looks like the original text only prevents damage from {D} Pokemon to your UNOWN. As you wrote over on N2 Tyranitar, that can be very helpful with the FIND combo, and is likely the intended strategy.
But changing the Pokemon Power to mitigate {D} damage to *any* of your Pokemon? Classic WOTC…
