Pokémon Power ⇢ [Normal]
Whenever a {C} Pokémon damages 1 of your Pokémon, reduce that damage by 30 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). This power stops working if you have more than 1 Unown N in play. (This power works even if Unown N is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.)

{P} → Hidden Power : 10

weak: {P}×2 | resist: n/a | retreat: 1
· Unown rule: You may have up to 4 Basic Pokémon cards in your deck with Unown in their names.

Their shapes look like hieroglyphs on ancient tablets. It is said that the two are somehow related.

This card Combo’d well with any colorless Pokémon that hurt itself, but was especially effective with Dark Ursaring. A 50/50 shot of doing 20 damage to each of your Opponent’s Pokémon with no risk to you own was pretty good for a single double colorless.

Team Rocket’s Meowth paired with a Metal Energy also made for a surprising effective and quick attacker, with an Unown N the table. Since you would have to flip five tails before he even begins to hurt himself.

I think you wouldn’t hit yourself until your 6th tails, because Metal Energy also reduced self-damage if attached to a non-metal Pokemon, so it reduced your self-damage by a total of 20 damage plus the 30 from Unown N.

All Unown in the Neo era of the TCG have Powers matching the corresponding word in the GSC Pokédex’s Unown Mode, except for 3 – Unown D (DARK/Darkness instead of DIRECT), Unown M (METAL instead of MAKE), and this card, which has NORMAL instead of NUZZLE. The theme and rationale for the substitutions here feel fairly obvious. (As far as I can tell, the Poké-Power names for the Generation 4 Unown are wholly original to the TCG.)

Also, hey! Aren’t the wacky jelly beans in this artwork reminiscent of the ones that showed up during the XY block that never really got explained?

They are similar, and I suspect the ones in XY all originate from whatever setting Dimension Valley depicts. Given the shared affiliation with Psychic-types, it’s possible the resemblance to these isn’t coincidental, but it’s a pretty specific card to get inspired by.

Yeah “NUZZLE” as an ability doesn’t make much sense in English!

And another! something I’ve just noticed – these three Powers have had their names changed from the Japanese TCG names. They were originally “DARK df”, “METAL df”, and “NORMAL df”. Any guesses on what “df” meant?

        · Just to somewhat close the loop on this, a conversation on Unown D is worth looking into regarding this card, as WOTC appears to have deliberately mistranslated the effect of the Power in addition to changing its name.
        · My guess on “df”, on reflection, is probably a weird way of abbreviating “defense”, as all three powers are applying a defensive effect against the Color/type in question. As a dark horse alternative option, it might refer to “Direction Finding”, a fancy term used in radio broadcasting that more or less means triangulating the location of a broadcast. Given the weird interaction with the PokéGear Radio and the Ruins of Alph, and that staff of Creatures and/or GAME FREAK might’ve seen the term “DF” while working on the Mobile System GB and/or Pokémon Crystal, it’s not unlikely.
