Kouki Saitou very briefly tried out a tweak to his artstyle for the HGSS block where his outlines were a little thicker than usual. This tweak is in line with what a lot of other artists did for this block, but Saitou is unusual for abandoning it before the block even ended. I wish he’d stuck with it, or at least to the end of HGSS? I think it helps make his colors and shading pop a lot – compare the art of this card to UL Ursaring’s. It’s not right to call any of Saitou’s artwork bland, but the thicker inks help accentuate and call attention to his work in a way his more natural lineart doesn’t.
