Generations was a set made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TCG. Its set symbol is based on the Chinese numerals (which Japan uses) for the number 20, 二十. The same thing will happen with Celebrations, which celebrates the 25th anniversary, with 二五 being stylized to make that set’s symbol.
The symbols for the sets these sets are based on in the original Japanese edition are different; the former’s symbol is a gold “20th” inside a blue rectangle, and the latter is a white on black “S8a”, referencing that set’s numbering within the SWSH block.
Incidentally, despite this being an interesting opportunity to have considered using the same logos, with two exceptions, I don’t think we’ve had the same set symbols for any set since EX Power Keepers / World Champion’s Pack. The World Collection would be a special case, and promo cards would be the other exception – starting with the e-Card P-Promo series, Japan adopted the Promo symbol WOTC came up with for its promo cards, and kept using it up to and inclusive of the XY-P series. (SM finally introduced a new, separate logo for SM-P.)
