The W Stamp cards were promos in some or another WOTC magazine back in the day – they weren’t too hard to find if you wanted a copy, but the magazine itself was this awkward mix of covering both MTG and Pokémon, and it ended up leaving everyone unhappy, because MTG players didn’t want Pokémon in their Serious Magazine For Serious Card Gamers, and Pokémon fans didn’t typically care about MTG. That the magazine had to scale back the depth of coverage to fit both in made it even worse for both parties.
I remember thinking it didn’t seem worthwhile to buy a magazine I didn’t want to read for a copy of a card I already had several copies of – because really, who cares about WOTC putting their logo on these cards? I say this, but I actually find I don’t see eye to eye with a lot of other westerners who collect Pokémon cards, this is definitely something they’d value having. Nonetheless, despite the potential valuation, and despite the lacklustre magazine sales suggesting a favorable situation for those looking to flip it, it looks like the card has a decent circulating population, because it’s only doing ‘okay’ on recent eBay sales. I don’t think some people are even recouping on the cost of the magazine itself.
