Absolutely adorable artwork. The Yukiko Baba illustrations from Neo Discovery are some of the first cards I still have a good memory of pulling, alongside some less-than-fond memories of the local card shop owner suddenly no longer selling regular packs when he decided he’d rather exclusively stock and sell 1st Edition packs so he could sell them for double the price. Myself not included in that and no other local store selling Neo packs, the good times of Neo 2 kind of ground to a halt.

After that, the shop actually closed – and yes, I was absolutely jazzed about it, screw that guy. But, as a result, I never saw any Neo Revelation packs “in the wild”, and it was only in an anachronistic 2003(!) that I found Neo Destiny at a local newsstand type-outfit. Considering I bought something like 20 Neo Destiny packs and never pulled a single holofoil from the set, I am pretty sure someone had weighed the packs in advance. (I had no idea weighing packs was a thing at the time, I simply assumed the set had a horrendously row pull rate for holos.) While I’m sure there *were* stores in town that were carrying Neo Revelation, e-Card, etc. you have to bear in mind I was just a kid at the time and could only check as far as I could reasonably bike to, and my parents were not the sort to indulge me in drives around town to see what shopkeep might charge them dollars for pieces of paper that cost cents to make.

So there was a solid year and change where the most recent set I had cards from was Neo 2. I’m glad it worked out that way, actually, because it’s a solid little set, and, tiny as it is and as much as collector interests can be focused elsewhere, a lot of the common and uncommon cards feature adorable artwork and many come together to put together a very nice image of the Ruins of Alph. If you’d asked me to pick a set to tide me over for a year, I honestly probably would’ve picked a “banger” like Team Rocket or Neo Destiny, but I’m glad it actually ended up being Neo Discovery.

    Good times.
