It looks to me like there are three basic variations of this ability:
1. Absorbs energy when moving to active spot (this, Evolutions Arcanine, Wyrdeer V, etc)
2. Absorbs energy when put into play (EX Deoxys Rayquaza ex, Articuno GX, Skyridge Magneton, etc)
3. Absorbs energy AND switches to active spot when put into play (FFI Dragonite-EX, Tapu Koko GX, Secret Wonders Arcanine, etc)

Also–Articuno GX (as well as the other Kanto ex birds in FRLG) actually belong in category #3 :)
