Qs answered by Adam Capriola, webmaster of PkmnCards. (“Hi!”)
Q. What is included with an Advanced membership?
The full suite of PkmnCards’ search, display, and sort features becomes unlocked for Advanced members (see the Advanced Search Form and Search Reference for all available options; there are too many to concisely mention here). Regular users can only perform basic searches by card name with limited display and sorting options.
Q. Who should join Advanced?
A. If you often want to search for Pokémon cards—quickly and precisely—then you should join! The PkmnCards database is comprehensive of nearly all English Pokémon cards and has loads of filters so you can pull up the exact cards you are looking for within seconds. For example: Players may want to search out cards with specific attributes (type, stage, retreat cost, etc.) for decks. Collectors can discover cards by artist, rarity, expansion, name, value, and more. The time savings, accuracy, and ease of use (compared to flipping through a binder or using another database) are what make Advanced worth it.
Q. Why don’t you show advertisements or accept donations (instead of charging for features)?
A. Many visitors block ads, and earnings from AdSense + affiliate programs have been inconsistent and poor over the years. I wish I was able to display a few advertisements and that would be enough to fund the site, but after almost a decade of going that route, and perpetually falling short, it’s obvious: I can’t rely on ads to keep PkmnCards stable.
Likewise, I did accept donations, for eight years, and I received only five total in that time. That’s a low number. Almost nobody donates since the choice to do so is optional and there is a common misconception that “someone else will take care of it (i.e., donate)” for them.
Memberships are significantly more effective at giving you what you want (namely, PkmnCards continually developed, improved, and promptly updated—for years to come) and allowing me to make that happen. I don’t like restricting features as the incentive to join, but this provides impetus for people who’ve been meaning to contribute to actually contribute (there are many of you!), and I will keep the price reasonable.
Q. How are membership funds used?
A. Good question! Revenue generated from Advanced memberships is used in the following ways:
- To “keep the lights on” (i.e., pay for web hosting, web services, and software licenses—everything needed to keep PkmnCards online and functioning at a basic level)
- To allow me to dedicate time toward entering data, developing new features, and fixing bugs (web development can be difficult work, it takes time to do well, and I can’t work for free)
In summary: Memberships keep PkmnCards active, accurate, and always getting better.
Q. I’m in. How do I manage my subscription?
A. Your subscription can be switched, canceled, or re-enabled at any time by clicking here. (And thank you for joining!)
Q. Is it OK if I share my account?
A. If you have a friend you’d like to go in together with on a single account, that’s fine by me. Pokémon is best when it’s a social activity. (For now, you will have to share your password to do this. In the future, I hope to make it so that you can link accounts.)
“PkmnCards is very easily the most powerful Pokémon TCG search engine in existence. I use it every single time I have ever built a deck. The advanced find feature is unbelievably good at finding any/all cards based on very specific search queries. I don’t think I could properly brew without it anymore.”

“I use pkmncards.com so much that it’s in my top 5 most visited sites. Being able to find scans and text from every Pokemon card with a few clicks has made regionals broadcasts much easier to follow after a new set comes out and I’ve not learned all the cards yet. Also, the ability to filter cards on so many dimensions can help with deckbuilding and just trying to learn all the newest cards before an event. It’s just such a well-organized source of information that it helps with every question I have about Pokemon cards.”
—Caitlin Beach, Pokémon TCG Player
“Pkmncards is one of the most valuable resources in the game today. I use it in my every day life as a player of the game. It’s crucial to fact checking and brainstorming when writing articles. I know I speak for the entire coverage team when I say our jobs would be much more difficult without it. No matter what angle you’re looking at Pokémon from, Pkmncards provides a treasure trove of much needed information, and I’m proud to give them my support.”
